CARPET TILE VS BROADLOOM CARPETING PART 2

CARPET TILE VS BROADLOOM CARPETING PART 2

SHOULD YOU CHOOSE CARPET TILE OR BROADLOOM CARPET FOR YOUR BUSINESS?
If you’re looking for commercial carpet for your business, you have two categories of options to choose from — broadloom carpet or carpet tile. Both of these options are designed to stand up to the increased traffic and added wear and tear of commercial businesses, but they each have their pros and cons. In our last blog, we compared carpet tile and broadloom carpeting for three main categories — ease of installation, design and maintenance. Our second match will compare these two wonderful options for three other areas of concern for business owners:

Round 1 – Waste

If your business is focused on protecting the environment, then waste should be a factor when considering what commercial flooring option to choose for your business. And, when it comes to limiting waste, almost nothing beats carpet tile. In general, broadloom carpet typically comes in a 12-foot width, so if the room you are carpeting is broader than 12 feet, you’ll have to buy another whole roll to fill in the additional space, and the rest will be wasted unless you can find another use for it. Carpet tiles, on the other hand, come in many sizes and can be made to perfectly fit almost any space. Additionally, any leftover carpet tiles should be kept in case any tiles need to be replaced down the road.

Round 2 – Comfort
In general, comfort isn’t a huge priority when it comes to commercial flooring for businesses. The exception to this is for hospitality businesses where guests regularly walk on the carpet. If comfort is a priority for your flooring needs, then you’d be better off with broadloom carpet than carpet tile. Unlike carpet tile, broadloom carpet must be installed over a carpet pad. This makes broadloom carpeting plusher, softer and immensely more comfortable underfoot than carpet tile.

Round 3 – Cost

The cost of your commercial flooring will depend on many factors, including quality and brand, and that’s true regardless of whether you purchase broadloom carpet or carpet tile. But, while you can certainly find some broadloom carpet options that are more expensive than some carpet tile options, in general, you’ll have to shell out more money for carpet tile. However, when it comes to cost, it pays to think beyond the initial investment. Carpet tile may be more expensive upfront, but you could save on installation since it’s easier to install it yourself. Additionally, you can replace individual carpet tiles that are stained or in need of repair, whereas, a few trouble spots on broadloom carpet may make it necessary to replace the carpeting for an entire room, which will definitely cost more.

Unfortunately, the choice between carpet tile and broadloom carpet for your business isn’t black and white. When it comes to the right commercial flooring type for your business, there’s a lot to consider, and the right option will be dependent on your goals and your needs.
